Remove eye makeup first: Before you wash your face, you should always remove your eye makeup first. This will ensure that you don't transfer mascara and liner all over your face, creating more of a mess to clean up.
Use the right remover: Face
wash is not a proper eye makeup remover. It's important to use a formula that's
specifically created for the sensitive area around the eyes. If you have
sensitive skin, you'll want to opt for a formula that doesn't include harsh
dyes or perfumes.
Dissolve it: Don't
just quickly wipe off eye makeup. Use a cotton pad with remover and place it on
your eyelid area for a minute or so in order to properly dissolve all of the
makeup (especially if it's waterproof!), and then gently swipe off the rest of
the makeup.
Don't tug: A
good makeup remover will never have you pulling and tugging around your eye
area in order to remove the makeup. This can lead to redness, irritated eyes
and even wrinkles over time.
Waterproof eye makeup: If
you're using dark or waterproof eyeliner and mascara, you'll want to look for
something emollient (meaning it softens the skin) like an oil-based eye makeup
remover. This will gently remove while hydrating the delicate skin.
Makeup Wipes:
If you're traveling or are stumbling home after too many cocktails, opt for an
eye makeup remover wipe. Don't ever skip on removing your makeup though, as it
will lead to dull, tired looking skin.
So, what do I use to remove my eye makeup? Well, I used to buy stuff from the store but in the past year started using a homemade eye makeup remover. I have a friend (Jamie) who can always point out how coconut oil can solve your problem. So, I figured that coconut oil was a good starting point. Here is the recipe that I have been using for a year....and I LOVE it. Cheap, quick and natural.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup organic extra virgin coconut oil
- Vitamin E capsules
- Lavender essential oil
- pin to poke hole in the capsules
- small container(s)
Put the coconut oil into a small
bowl and microwave for 15 seconds. That’s all it takes get it to liquid form.
(Or you can heat in a small saucepan over low heat for a few minutes.)
Pour the liquified oil into the
containers you are using.
For the small mason jar: I added
enough oil to fil about three-fourths full, emptied 6 capsules of Vitamin E in
the jar, and finally added 6-7 drops of Lavender essential oil.
Place the filled containers in the
refrigerator for a little while (less than an hour) until the liquid returns to
solid form, and it’s ready to use!
Use at night to remove eye makeup
and as a moisturizing eye cream!
So ladies, #SMACK those lashes during the day but make sure you are taking proper care of your skin at night!
